In John 6:23, Jesus says 'If you ask the Father for anything in MY name HE will give it to you..."
Jesus follows that statement with 'You have not because You have not asked...'
Later he told the apostles that they were about to be scattered but he did not want them to fear. He told them in John 6:33: In this world you will have troubles and tribulations, but take courage, because I have overcome the world...
This entire conversation took place at the last supper before Jesus was taken away. The apostles had no idea what was about to happen but Jesus knew everything. Jesus knew he was going away and wanted to give the apostles final instructions and encouragement.
He was very specific that we needed to pray in HIS Name. And He encouraged everyone by reminding us that if we believed in Him the we would have victory because He had victory over the world....
He told us that things would be difficult. He told us that the world would present to us troubles and tribulations. He said to be brave. Jesus said to have courage. He wanted us to face our troubles and tribulations with confidence knowing that He faced great opposition and had come out victorious.
